Creating PDF file for your flaunt file
You can create a PDF file for your flaunt file using practically any software. Different ways of showing a flaunt file Flaunt Files can be shown in 3 different ways. Type 1 is where it shows only one page at a time. Type 2 shows both left and right side with the spine in the center. When you flip the pages, you will actually see the flipping animation (It is quite attractive) Type 3 is where you slide each page across. We like Type 2 but if you want to try other types, just change the last part of the link used to share the Flaunt File from 2 to other numbers. Our suggestion We suggest that you should create a Flaunt File like a "double-spread" magazine. Think of a magazine that is lying on a table with both the sides open. That means the spine is in the center of the magazine. Sometimes these magazines have images that are spread across from the left to the right side of the opened magazine. The flipping action can be quite attractive to look at.
Using LibreOffice to create double-spread PDFs Here is how you can create such a file using LibreOffice; a free office suite. Open LibreOffice Writer, and start a document where the page setting is for A3 landscape mode. You can also set the margins to zero in case you want the images and content to go right to the edge of the book. Now you develop your document/book (whatever that you are going to flaunt later) and make full use of that word processor. Arrange images anywhere on the page, and use text boxes to add content freely. This will help you design the magazine/book/whatever as per your choice.
Once this is done, export the document as a PDF file. Make sure you choose "lossless compression" for the images. That way the flaunt file will display images exactly as you intended, even when the viewer zooms in.
Split A3 landscape PDF vertically to A4 Portrait PDF Now you need to split the exported PDF which has a set of A3 landscape pages vertically so that your book/magazine/whatever will have that double-spread effect. There are some free online services that can do this for you. Or you can use a free desktop application in Windows called "BRISS" which can cut up the A3 landscape pages to A4, with minimum fuss. (BRISS is Explained in one of the appendices)
Normally, when you do this, you may prefer to delete the very first A4 page and the very last A4 page that is now present in the portrait A4 based converted PDF file. (The deletion of first and last pages can be done using another excellent free utility "pdftk") The reason is that when such a flaunt file is displayed, the first appearance would be that of the cover page. And the dramatic "flipping" open animation would look very nice and dramatic.
When I use such "double-spread" PDF files, I place audio only on the pages with an even number (2,4,6...) That way, the audio would be heard when moving forward from one page to the next greater one. But it would not be heard when you move to the last page; and keep flipping the Flaunt File from back to front.
Of course you can create any type of PDF file as per your wishes. Experiment with a few and maybe you can let us know of what kind of layouts and page sizes you created. We'd love to know.
