Frequently Asked Questions

How are the viewings of a Flaunt File counted?

The viewings are counted when a regular viewer uses a browser to view your Flaunt File. If the link is visited by a search engine or some other bot, our server would not count it -- we check almost all the known methods to detect if it was indeed a bot that visited the link.

The count is also not incremented if the author himself/herself visited the Flaunt File from the Flaunt! link in the author's dashboard. However if the author copied the link, and then used it afresh on a new window to visit the Flaunt File, then the count would be incremented. But why should you do this, when you can conveniently click from the dashboard itself?

What's the definition of a "viewing"?

We use the term "viewings" to mean the actual reading/listening to a Flaunt File. Multiple viewings can be done by the same viewer. Our pricing is only for viewings (even though we may sometimes use the word 'view' to shorten the sentence).

What determines the number of viewings that can be done on a Flaunt File?

Frankly, we decided it on the average bandwidth each view would consume. But wait: The author's viewings do not count, if the view link was clicked from the author's own dashboard. Since our server is hosted on a commercial host who has given us limited bandwidth, we need to ensure that everyone who wants to enjoy the Flaunt Files can do so. Of course, if you want more viewings (as you may have lots of viewers), you can always pay a small amount -- that covers the average increase in the bandwidth costs at our server.

We always in lookout for for other ways (e.g. a better/cheaper server) where we can give even more viewings for the flaunt files created by our users. NOTE: A Flaunt File that is frozen for 6 months or more can be deleted by us.

Will I get a warning before the viewing count or the time-limit validity gets exhausted?

Yes. Our server will send out emails when it has reached 90%- 91% of the limits (for both the viewing-count as well as the duration time-limit validity) Look at the pricing page for the limits that are currently set. For e.g. One payment would fetch you a time-limit of 3 months and a total viewing count of 150 views. So rest assured, you would get an email once 81 days are over and/or when a viewing count of 135 viewings are reached.

Also, please note that the email is sent ONLY when a viewer had attempted to view. Which is a good hint for you: please do heed the advice given in the email sent to you! This also means, there is a chance that the time-limit may be reached (and your Flaunt File will get frozen) without you receiving a warning email before hand -- if, by chance, no viewer happened to come to view that Flaunt File during that period.

What is a "frozen" Flaunt File?

A frozen file is one that cannot be viewed. This happens either because the time-limit was breached OR if the number of viewings exceeded the limit set for that Flaunt File. You can "thaw" a previously frozen Flaunt File by making a tiny payment for it. BTW, such payments can be made by anyone! Not necessarily, the author of the Flaunt File. For e.g. when a particular Flaunt File is frozen, a viewer would get a message that a payment can be made to "thaw" it -- and that payment can come from that viewer instead of the author. Of course, the author can also pay for it.

Are there any other limits?

There is an over-arching size limit of 100Mb per PDF file and 3Mb per sound track file (.mp3/.opus/.webm) imposed on all Flaunt Files. In any Flaunt File, PDF should not have more than 150 pages and total audio duration should not exceed 150 minutes.

I am unable to "like" a Flaunt File. Why so?

Authors of Flaunt Files cannot place "likes" on their own Flaunt Files. If you are not the author, and you are unable to place a "like" (or remove the earlier one) on someone else's Flaunt File, then we have a bug! Please report that to admin@flauntfile.com Thanks!

How can I reply to a comment on my Flaunt File?

There is no simple way to "reply" to a comment currently. We thought about this a lot and decided to take a very simple approach. We believe it is more appropriate NOT to do a direct "reply" to comments. Why? Replies often dissolve into "I said this" vs "You said this" and may not add much value. So we created a system where any viewer (who is registered) can read his/her own comments along with that of the author. (Anonymous viewers can read the original Flaunt File author's comments only) From the author's point of view, it means that he/she sees the comments that maybe from different viewers. The author cannot make out any of the names of the commenters on a particular page, as we do not announce any names of the commenters. Also, a commenter can only see his/her own comments along with those made by the author. So if a particular comment was targeted by the author for a reply, other commenters would get confused, as they would see the author's own reply to someone else but they would not be able to read the other commenter's original post to which the author had replied!

In short, we believe that it is nicer to stick to points raised and address those points, instead of "replying" which can often become argumentative and pointless.
